DRIVING IN THAILAND

P'Dan has been getting an education in Thailand driving practices. They are, err, "less rigid" than in the US. Pastor Paul has been driving as well as Ron, and actually has remembered to stay on the left side so far (well done, Paul - I even forgive you for driving into that shopping cart today).

Rule one: whoever gets to the open spot first has the right of way - doesn't matter if they are on the right or wrong side of the street.
Rule two: it's polite to honk just before driving a motor scooter off the road when you pass them (as you go between them and oncoming traffic).
Rule three: if there's room, there's a lane. Traffic lane markings are just suggestions. Stop signs are apparently installed as bird perches.
Rule four: if the left turn out on a median-divided road is too far, just drive on the wrong side to your destination. Everyone understands this and no one gets excited. A very practical custom.

There are more "rules" but you get the point: there aren't really any rules. Please pray for P'Dan because it's actually starting to make sense to him.
